We have an experienced team of qualified Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses together with our reception staff who will welcome you to Hawkedon Veterinary Surgery.

Richard qualified from Cambridge University in 1993. Richard is our practice owner and our principal equine vet and also helps out in the small animal clinic when needed. He has his own cattle and sheep, horses and cats and also visits our farm clients.

Leila is one of our equine vets but often helps us in the surgery and sees our farm clients. She qualified from Liverpool university in 2004 and joined the practice in 2007. Leila lives close to Bury St Edmunds with her husband, son Oliver, dogs and horses and enjoys competing her horses in her spare time. Leila is currently on maternity leave following the birth of her second son, we look forward to rejoining us in the summer.

BSc BVetmed (Hons) MRCVS

Freda joined the practice in Autumn 2013 after qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College, London. She divides her time between the two practices and can be seen in the consulting room or out on calls to our equine clients. Freda grew up in Ireland and has experience of all creatures great and small through her Father's country practice. Prior to studying veterinary, Freda worked as a biomedical scientist and still has a keen interest in clinical pathology.


Rosina Page Baker


Rosina joined the practice in February 2015. Following her qualification from the Royal Veterinary College in 2011, she worked at an Equine and Small animal practice in Ipswich. Rosina is a keen horsewoman who has three horses and regularly competes in Showjumping, Crosscountry and Dressage. Rosina also has two dogs whom she enjoys long walks with. And also enjoys spending her spare time with her beautiful daughter and husband.

Reception and Nursing Staff

Michelle has been with the practice almost since the first day. Michelle manages our reception desk, accounts department and insurance claims. Michelle lives in Bury St Edmunds.

Animal Nursing Assistant

Sophie is a valued member of our team, having  been with the practice for nearly ten years. Born and bred in Suffolk, she has a great rapport with our local clients and enjoys the community feel at Hawkedon Vets. In her spare time, Sophie loves hacking on her horse Ducky, walking her dogs and has her hands full looking after 11 hens and 3 cockerels!

Trainee Veterinary Nurse

Toni is a trained Animal Nursing Assistant who joined the practice in 2012 and has now started her vet nurse training with us.  She can be found working at both our Homefield Road and Hawkedon practices. She regularly competes with her thoroughbred horse 'Theo' in showjumping, cross-country and long distance rides. Toni also a tiny Jack Russel called Tia who is an absolute princess and can be seen sporting a new outfit every day!

Michele McCarthy

Trainee Veterinary Nurse 

Michele joined the team in 2014 and is now doing her vet nurse training with us. Michele can regularly be seen at both our Hawkedon and Homefield Road sites. Michele has two horses and a lovely black labrador.

Yard Manager, Equine Nursing Assistant

Jane is a very experienced member of our team. Whilst mainly involved with our equine patients, Jane also works in the surgery on reception and as a nursing assistant. She has two English pointer dogs and their puppies and a totally blind cat that can still manage to catch mice!
